TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FHP)-- The westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for approximately four hours today after a semi-truck sideswiped an SUV that was pulled over on the emergency shoulder.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol the driver of the SUV had pulled over and opened the door when the semi-truck side-swiped him causing the semi to lose control. The semi-truck began to overturn and the cab and trailer became separated. The cab continued to travel in a northwest direction before it came to a stop in the trees north of the roadway.
The semi-trucks trailer and cargo, an unknown amount of cantaloupe, came to a stop on the westbound lanes causing a complete blockage.
The driver of the semi-truck was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
