TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Perhaps you have seen a pink fire truck driving around town.
It's all a part of Pink Heals Tallahassee.
WTXL's Jada Williams was live this Wednesday morning with the story behind the project and the person inspiring a second pink truck.
The Pink Heals Project is a national non-profit aimed at helping people suffering from terminal illness and their families.
The Tallahassee chapter already has Ariel, but now they are working on Miles, a second pink fire truck.
At first glance, it may just look like a normal red fire truck.
"I know it sounds funny, but this truck is like him," said Matt Shanaghan, Miles' father. "You know, I look at it and it's just so fitting. He would've loved this."
The Harris family is looking at what will soon be the newest fire truck for the Pink Heels project, named after their oldest son Miles, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer one week after his third birthday.
"He fought hard for 9 months and we lost him in February," said Morgan Harris, Miles' mother.
An emotional time for the family, made a little easier thanks to The Pink Heals Project, this fire truck, and Epcot the Robot.
"We actually have a little stuffed heart in here that has some of Miles' ashes in it," said Matt Shanaghan. "This bear was with him in the hospital the last couple of months. We just thought it was fitting to keep some of his remains in the robot."
This is the first time that a little piece of Miles gets to meet a bigger piece of Miles. Once this truck is finished, it'll join other pink fire truck touring the entire country and restoring faith in humanity.
"This is a truck identical to the one Miles played on and ran around," said Sarah Cooksey. "It was a sign from heaven saying this truck was meant to be in our community."
A truck that will also bring joy to others.
"... this is just a nice way to remember him," said Matt Harris. "Being able to bring this to kids and brighten their days. Good days like this are far and few between when your kid is sick like that."
And the Harris family says they'll continue to fight back for Miles and every one else facing a terminal illness.
