TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Second Harvest of the Big Bend met Wednesday for an annual conference, saying they expect to hand out 6 million pounds of food this year through their partner agencies.
Second Harvest of the Big Bend has 130 partner agencies that the organization uses to distribute food throughout an 11 county region.
The food bank says it's seen a nearly a 20% increase in the number of people at risk for hunger in just the past 5 years.
Wednesday's meeting was all about training these partner agencies about ways to better help the community.
Second Harvest says one in six people face hunger in the US, including $100,000 right here in the Big Bend.
