TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Friday will be another paycheck missed for federal employees and another week of uncertainty for many as they try to feed their families.
Second Harvest of the Big Bend is on the front lines in Tallahassee, delivering groceries to cash-strapped workers.
This is the second time that Second Harvest has been at the Tallahassee International Airport this month. Last week they brought enough food to feed 50 families, this week, enough to feed 100 as the days tick by without pay and the need for assistance grows.
Second Harvest plans to help feed federal employees for as long as it takes, which adds up to a lot of food, and making sure everyone gets enough to eat is a community effort.
"We are grateful for the communities support which makes all of this possible. For folks who want to support Second Harvest we ask them to go to our website fightinghunger.org and help us with a contribution," said Rick Minor, CEO of Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
Second Harvest of the Big Bend said they'll be delivering groceries at the Tallahassee International Airport every Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and every Thursday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Federal Correctional Institution on Capital Circle until the shutdown is over.
