FRANKLIN CO., Fla. -- America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend will distribute more than 28,000 pounds of fresh produce, incuding sweet potatoes and watermelon, to Franklin County residents.

The distribution will be on Saturday, January 12, from 10 a.m - Noon.  It will take place at the First Baptist Church (447 Avenue A) in Eastpoint.

Barber’s Seafood, a seafood packing house located in Eastpoint, has partnered with Second Harvest to provide a tractor trailer to pick up the food from Second Harvest warehouse located in Tallahassee.

The gesture is in response to the depletion of the area's oyster resources, which support the local economy. Franklin County residents depend on the oyster business, and without it families are facing their own personal crisis.

Second Harvest aims to ease this burden each day through partner agencies located in Franklin County, however, this special distribution will provide a boost of fresh, healthy food options.

Just last year, Second Harvest distributed more than 235,000 meals to Franklin County residents.
