TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Second Harvest food bank is conducting mobile food pantries to assist local federal employees who are not receiving paychecks during the government shutdown.

The first mobile pantry will serve unpaid local Transportation Security Administration employees at the Tallahassee International Airport on Thursday from 11 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the airport employee parking lot.

The Second Harvest van will be located near the southeast corner of the employee parking lot.

"Second Harvest is proud to offer assistance to TSA employees during this difficult time," said Rick Minor, CEO of Second Harvest. "By providing them and their families with healthy food, we hope they might be able to stretch their dollar further for rent and other expenses."

Minor added that Second Harvest will continue TSA food distributions as needed, and that the food bank also is coordinating with AFSCME, the public sector employees’ union, to assist other furloughed federal employees throughout the Big Bend.

For example, future mobile pantries are being planned for the Federal Corrections Institute in Tallahassee.
