SOUTH GEORGIA (WTXL) - The Second Harvest of South Georgia has just expanded its services in terms of food security.

PetSmart started a new initiative that matches a bag of pet food to every customer's purchase of pet food.

The donated pet food is for owners that may be struggling to not only feed themselves but to feed their pets as well.

Chief of marketing Eliza McCall says that some senior citizens have to choose between feeding themselves or feeding their pet and this donation takes away having to make that decision. McCall says that if the home is suffering from food insecurity, the pets are too.

"Something like this donation of pet food is a real rarity for us at the food bank, so we are glad and very grateful to PetSmart customers for making this for us," said McCall.

Second Harvest says it will distribute the pet food across South Georgia as it would normally distribute regular food.
