TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Tallahassee Commissioner Scott Maddox says he will not run for superintendent, instead he will run for his city commission seat.

Maddox made the announcement Tuesday morning. The Commissioner announced he would run for the superintendent position last year.

Last week area businesses wrote a letter asking him to drop out and stay on as a city commissioner.

Maddox has a long history with the city commission, he was the youngest commissioner ever elected taking office when he was just 24-years-old.

Gloria Pugh has announced that she will be dropping out of the running for Maddox's seat and will be supporting him in the race moving forward.

Rick Minor also announced he would be dropping out of the race saying, "After considerable thought and discussion with my family, I’ve decided to step out of the City Commission Seat 1 race now that Commissioner Scott Maddox has decided to run for re-election. This has been an incredibly difficult decision. I’ve been campaigning for a year and I was the clear frontrunner for the entire time. But I’ve known Scott for many years and he has an impressive record of accomplishment at City Hall. He’s serving us well in the Commission, so I support his re-election and I encourage Tallahassee voters to do the same.”
