LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Some schools in our area are already back in session, but Leon County starts back next week.

School resource deputies are ready. Brian Hood - who is assigned to Deerlake Middle School, Killearn Lakes Elementary School, and Hawks Rise Elementary - is looking forward to the new school year.

Superintendent Rocky Hanna welcomed the deputies to the new school year that starts Monday

He says the school resource deputy program dates back decades to when he was a senior in high school in 1981.

Hanna says the deputies protect teachers, and staff. They also serve as mentors on campuses throughout the county.
