TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--It's been a busy summer for school resource deputies, and there's a new program to make sure all schools are covered.

Leon County Sheriff Mike Wood says since elementary schools do not staff full-time deputies, there are now security deputies.

Eight deputies are splitting time between the 16 elementary schools that do not have a school resource deputy assigned to them. Watch the full interview to see Sheriff Mike Wood talking about the advantages of school resource deputies and his time serving in the school system.
