DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a school bus driver in the Florida Panhandle is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old student.

The Northwest Florida Daily News (http://bit.ly/1IywuF3 ) reports 45-year-old David Gordon O'Brien was arrested Thursday following an investigation into allegations that he made inappropriate comments to students on his bus.

Walton County Sheriff's spokeswoman Catherine Rodriguez said the assault was discovered as investigators looked at videotape after a student made allegations in October about the inappropriate comments.

Superintendent Carlene Anderson immediately suspended O'Brien pending further investigation and reported the incident to the sheriff. O'Brien later resigned at her request.

He was arrested Thursday at his current job at the Graceville Correctional Facility. He's charged with capital sexual battery on a child under 18.

It isn't known if he's hired a lawyer.
