DAVENPORT, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Highway Patrol says a school bus caught on fire as it traveled on Interstate 4 in central Florida.
Troopers dispatched units about 7:42 a.m. Wednesday as the bus was stopped near U.S. 27 in Davenport, which is between Tampa and Orlando.
The Discovery Academy bus experienced mechanical problems and the driver had pulled to the shoulder and stopped when the vehicle caught on fire. Troopers say it was later consumed by fire.
The bus was carrying 38 middle school children. No one was injured.
All lanes of I-4 were briefly closed due to heavy smoke.
