5 Scams the Better Business Bureau Calls the 'Riskiest' for Consumers

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is letting consumers know the five riskiest scams based on more than 32,000 reports.

The BBB rated the top five using its risk index, which measures exposure, susceptibility and monetary loss to determine which scams top the list.

1. Home Improvement Scams
2. Fake Checks and Money Orders
3. Employment Scams
4. Online Purchase Scams
5. Advance Fee Loan Scams

The BBB says consumers ages 18-24 are most likely to lose money on a scam, while older consumers are targeted the most. Older consumers fall for scams far less often than young adults.

Home imporvement scams are the only scam in the top five which relies on in-person contact.
