(WTXL) - Someone may be trying to take advantage of your love for Amazon.
The Better Business Bureau is warning about a circulating scam email targeting Amazon customers. They say the newest email con features a believable email that asks you to "confirm" your personal information.
Once you open your email, you'll find a message from "Amazon.com" with a subject line that reads: "We could not confirm the address associated with your Amazon account."
The email continues, saying that they have disabled the account to "avoid account misuse." It then prompts the user to click the link to unlock their account.
If clicked, the BBB says the link doesn't lead to Amazon, but instead goes to another website. They say that website could be full of malware that will leave your online banking and personal information exposed.
BBB provided the following tips to keep from getting duped by email phishing scams:
- Don’t click on links in unsolicited emails. Links can download malware onto your computer and even lead to identity theft. Beware of unsolicited emails in general. Even if they look official, they could be fake.
- Never share your personal information with someone who has contacted you unsolicited. Personal information can include your date of birth, credit card or banking information, address or your Social Security number.
- Check BBB Tips: Many email scams use similar techniques. Be sure to review the tips found on BBB.org/phishingscam
