THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL)--Thomas County deputies want you to know about a phone scam that seems to be targeting people.

Captain Steve Jones with the Thomas County Sheriff's Office says a man is calling people, pretending to be a Verizon Wireless employee and telling people that their payment hadn't been received.

Jones says the guy on the phone is asking for credit card and other personal information.

Jones says when he was filling out a police report about the scam, he got a call.

"As I'm typing in the report, my Thomas County cell phone goes off," said Jones. "The same person on the end of that was saying he was from Verizon and there was a shortage in my account and of course when I told him I was law enforcement I got a click on the other end quickly.

Thomas County deputies says if you're not the one initiating the call, don't give out any personal information.
