SAINT MARKS, FL (WTXL) -- Officials in Saint Marks cut the ribbon on the city's new municipal dock Tuesday.
They say they hope the new dock will help boost business in the area.
The dock was made possible thanks to a grant from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunities.
The ceremony was all about celebrating the completion of site development.
But those behind the project say there's much more in store for the area's future.
"All we need is that customer to come in, or customers, and utilize it, because we are ready," said city manager Zoe Mansfield. "It will certainly help Saint Marks with jobs. When you have jobs, people eat in the restaurants, they buy houses, and they visit our parks. we have the bike trail! There's just endless things for Saint Marks, and we're going forward."
State Senator Bill Montford was there to support the ribbon cutting and has watched the project from start to finish.
He says it's a great example of what can be accomplished when local and state governments collaborate.
"What you have here, you have the local government here -- the city of Saint Marks, the mayor, the city manager," he said. "Everybody had the foresight and the vision to see something that, quite frankly, didn't look very good to start with, but they had a vision and they made it come to fruition."
The dock took one year to complete at a price tag of $1.6 million.
