FRANKLIN CO., Fla. -- United States Senator Marco Rubio has scheduled a field congressional hearing to examine the lack of water flow in Apalachicola River.
The hearing will be on Tuesday, August 13, at the Franklin County Courthouse. It will begin at 11 a.m.. Arally and petition signing at 10 a.m. will take place before the hearing.
The water issues surrounding the bay have repotedly had an effect on the health of the bay, which is the primary building block to the area's economy. The majority of residents are fishermen or oystermen, and a recent lackluster harvest created hard times for most mariners.
Through the field hearing, Congress has the authority to direct the US Corps of Engineers to provide the freshwater flows that could be beneficial to the bay.
Residents that want to get involved are asked to share the message and spread the word using the #SaveOurBay tag.
