WASHINGTON (AP) - Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio has a key role to play when the Senate takes up a far-reaching immigration bill next week.
Rubio has been a major emissary to the conservative community in support of the bill. Now he says the legislation needs to get stronger on border security if it's going to pass. He's been working with individual Republican senators on amendments to achieve that goal.
Rubio is addressing House conservatives Wednesday.
Some immigration advocates fear that the insistence on establishing new border requirements first could end up making the path to citizenship unachievable.
