TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- A memorial service was held Monday morning for Rod Durham, a teacher who inspired people across the country as a contestant on the ABC show Extreme Weight Loss.
Monday's service was held at the Leon High auditorium, where Durham worked with students as a drama teacher.
The auditorium was packed with friends, students current and former, as well as UCF alumni who graduated with Durham in 1986.
One week ago, Durham passed away in sleep from heart failure.
Those who worked with Durham say he's left an everlasting impact on the community.
Hospice staff will be on Leon High's campus all week to offer grief counseling to teachers and students.
A scholarship has been opened in Rod's name to honor his passion for students involved in the arts.
