BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) – Over the past three weeks  water levels have risen several feet at the Earle May Boat Basin. The rapid increase poses a threat to those looking to hit the water.

One of the biggest dangers is when water levels are high and you can't see.

Stumps, Logs, and even boating signs can be completely submerged.

If those items are hit it could be catastrophic

Ryan Cleveland a Game warden with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said it's best to take this weekend off from boating.

"The water is going to rise more as the weekend goes because the rainfall fallen up in the Northern Part of Georgia, all that is also going down the river and it's coming down here as well, so the river is up now and it's only going to continue to rise for the next couple days," said Cleveland.

If you do decide to out on the water this weekend, remember, Georgia state law says that everyone has to have a life jacket and if you are under 13 you must have it on at all times.
