TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Chiles High student was surprised by Leon County school officials this morning with some big news. Emily Blomely has been selected as the student school board representative for the 2016-2017 school year.
She's got an impressive resume as the vice president of the Anchor Club, a member of the National Honor Society, and is a newly selected Florida Girls State representative.
Emily was hand-picked for the position by a three-person committee. She was selected over 8 other students, who were all nominated by their principals to be interviewed for the position.
"It's pretty amazing, I'm really surprised. There were so many other great applications," said Blomely.
Emily is the 25th student in LCS history to fill the position.
The Leon County school system boasts the longest running program with student representatives in the state of Florida.
