LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — A central Florida man is recovering after a revolver in his pocket accidentally discharged and struck him in the leg.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office says the man was working at the Lakeland Farmer's Market on Sunday afternoon when the accident happened.
The Ledger of Lakeland (http://bit.ly/1vZhsYg ) reports 58-year-old Thomas Crispin told deputies he lifted his right leg while loading unsold merchandise into a van when the .22-caliber revolver went off.
The bullet entered his upper right leg and went underneath his skin to an area just above his shin.
Deputies say the market had closed for the weekend when Crispin, his wife and daughter were loading merchandise.
He told deputies he carries the gun to protect his business.
He was treated at a Lakeland hospital for his injuries.
