TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- If you're still planning your perfect party menu for this New Year's, don't forget to add some traditional favorites that could bring a little luck with them.

Chef Jason Bruner from 101 Restaurant joined us on WTXL Sunrise to show us how to make cabbage and cornbread.

Both are said to bring you wealth and prosperity in the new year. Folklore says the green in cabbage represents money and the golden color of the cornbread represents pocket change.

Chef Bruner puts an updated, fresh take on these classics.

His cabbage includes green apples and bacon. Chef Bruner says it's easy to overcook cabbage, which also means losing nutrients, so watch it carefully when cooking at home.

He also showed off jalapeño cornbread with locally sourced tupelo honey. The peppers give the cornbread a spicy kick, and the honey adds sweetness and moisture.

Both items are available for New Year's at 101 Restaurant.
