TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Neighbors who live in a subdivision in Tallahassee's Southside say crews continue to work on a sand pit just yards away from their homes.
A Woodhaven resident sent us video of a construction vehicle dumping material on a mound behind her neighbor's house.
Residents say the mound has gotten bigger since WTXL first reported on a rezoning effort last year.
Danny Williams said his wife died in April after developing several respiratory issues while living in the neighborhood. He said he doesn't know whether or not the sand pit activity led to her health problems, but he said it didn't help either.
"All that dust back in the 80's coming on through and what she been through and everything; who knows? Maybe it did. Maybe it didn't," said Williams. "But just like that guy down there, he's got 100 and something men, he said, working... there has to be some restrictions coming from the commissioners and put in force to get something done. You can't let these people run wild just 'cause they got a job."
Developer Steve Ghazvini told us over the phone that the mound was created as a sound barrier, while his company moved operations further from the subdivision.
He said the city and state have regularly inspected the sandpit with no violations and that his crews haven't been working near the homes for the past two years.
