WAKULLA COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - Panacea will not become an incorporated city. That's according to Tuesday night's elections results, following a referendum that gave residents the choice of, if they wanted to be their own city.

Wakulla voters were asked: "Shall the creation of the city of Panacea and its charter be approved?"

According to the Wakulla County Supervisor of Elections, with just over 360 ballots cast, 53 percent of wakulla voters said 'no' to that question and 46 percent said 'yes'.

Back in May, Governor Rick Scott signed a bill, which would allow incorporation of Panacea, pending approval in a referendum.

Supporters of the referendum say the incorporation would create more jobs, but those who oppose it say negotiating taxes with the county would cause a problem.
