TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Hurricane Irma not only caused businesses and residents in the Big Bend to lose power, it also disrupted a big football weekend for Tallahassee. Many local businesses and restaurants stocked up on goods and foods that were expected to sell during last weekend's home game.

As for Tallahassee residents, many were too busy preparing for the storm to shop local. "Shop local 850" is urging residents to support their local shops much like they've supported their neighbors in these tough time.

Jeremy Matlow is the owner of Gaines Street Pies and Midtown Pies. Matlow states "We just want to get the message out there. Remind people that local businesses , just like the community are trying to bounce back and we're all just trying to get back to normal. That's what this weekend is about. Let's get back to where we were. It's been stressful for a couple weeks for everybody and just get everyone shopping local again."

The "850 Shop Local" event is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
