TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A nationwide initiative celebrating reading was hosted by MidTown Reader and WFSU in Tallahassee Tuesday.

Part of the PBS nationwide Great American Read Initiative, an all day Tallahassee Read-a-thon took place bringing in readers from all across town.

The list of readers included WFSU's Tom Flanigan, William Hatfield, Editor of the Tallahassee Democrat, FSU's first lady Jean Thrasher, as well as Superintendent of Leon County schools Rocky Hannah, among others.

"Reading is fundamentally the key component to success in life and that message needs to be said over and over and over again. So I had the honor of reading To Kill a Mockingbird."

Readers read for 15 minute intervals to listeners until 6 p.m.
