TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Two Tallahassee residents managed to escape a house fire that caused thousands of dollars worth of damage, according to the Tallahassee Fire Department.
The fire happened in the 4000 block of Tara Drive on Friday, April 26. A neighbor noticed flames and called the fire department.
Firefighters responded at approximately 6:18 a.m. When they arrived, they encountered flames and smoke billowing through the front of the wood-framed house. Tallahassee Fire Department Lt. Mike Bellamy says the fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes.
He says that the two adult occupants were able to get out before firefighters arrived. However, the feet of one of the survivors was burned during the escape; the victim was taken to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Lt. Bellamy says damages are estimated at $70,000. The cause is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's office and the Tallahassee Fire Department.
