WICHITA, KS (KAKE/CNN) – Scars are the only signs of it now, but a puppy rescued from the side of the road in Kansas endured the cruelty of having her eyes and mouth glued shut.
The eight-month-old was brought to a Wichita emergency vet clinic after she was found.
“They did this on purpose, somebody thought it was funny, to torture this little puppy,” said Randi Carter, who runs Beauties and Beasts animal rescue. “I don’t think it’s funny. I know she doesn’t think it’s funny.”
The rescue is offering a $1,000 reward to find the person, or people, responsible.
A Wichita woman and her daughter picked the puppy up on Monday. They didn’t realize what had been done to her until they got home.
When the puppy arrived at the clinic, her eyes were closed and her teeth were shut with superglue. Her tongue was even glued to the side of her mouth.
“Imagine the struggle and the pain that must have been when she was trying to open her mouth,” Carter said. “After they were done abusing her, they threw her out on the side of the road.”
After days of treatment and care, the puppy's now recovering. The glue in her eye did cause some ulcers, but her vet is hopeful it will clear up.
“I want to arrest these people,” Carter said. “You think about people that do this to animals, they could do it to a human. They wouldn’t have a problem. It’s proven fact.”
Amazingly, the puppy's in good spirits and energetic.
