TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Representative Gwen Graham announces Thursday she will not seek re-election to Congress as she is considering running for Governor in 2018.
Graham's decision comes after a long battle surrounding redistricting issues in North Florida. The conflict focuses on the transformation of the Second Congressional District into two extreme, partisan districts.
In a video released Thursday, Graham says the controversy has caused her to re-think how she can best serve those in North Florida and across the state. She touched on her time representing North Florida, citing many of her accomplishments. Among her time in the position, Graham has fought to reform Congress, push for protection of the Apalachicola Bay, while cutting operating budgets for her office by 10 percent.
The Congresswoman says she will stop her current position because she says she believes public servants are to focus on the job they are elected for. Graham also says she believes the state is in need of new leadership.
