TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tuesday night, Leon county School Board officials commended the efforts of those involved in last weeks fire at Leon High School, as well as approved a contract with Rippee Construction Company to continue making repairs.

Jim Connell, Chief of Facilities and Construction with Leon County Schools says the approval of the contract was merely a procedural step, "we have emergency contracts in place, that are already signed by the board a few months back and this is a delivery order to enact one of those contracts."

Crews with Rippee Construction Company were on scene immediately last week working to get the school re-opened. However Connell say there's still additional work that will need to be done, "more ceiling replacement, more cleaning on the 2nd and 3rd floor to get rid of soot and the residual smoke odors."

Officials say the work is estimated at about 500,000 dollars, and that contract cannot exceed 1.5 million dollars.
