TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - 75 years ago today it was breaking news: the Empire of Japan had attacked the United States and suddenly the nation was about to be at war.

The attack on Pearl Harbor still endures as a monument to the suffering and sacrifice of American servicemen in World War II.

The strike came without warning, damaging 188 american aircrafts, and resulting in thousands of deaths. The attack was devastating and it's impacts are still relevant today.

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States joined WWII, fighting on fronts in both Europe and the Pacific.

Months after the attack in Hawaii, troops were training right here in the Big Bend to storm a French beach, taking part in another momentous day in American, and global, history.
