TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- A seasonal harvest closure is set in Florida to preserve the state's Snook population.

Snook will close to all harvest in gulf state, federal, and inland waters starting on May 1.

Snook will remain open to harvest in Atlantic state, federal, and inland waters.

The gulf will reopen for recreational harvest on Sept. 1.

Snook may be caught and released during the closed season, but the Florida fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is encouraging anglers to handle their catch carefully so the fish can survive after the release.
