TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - After six shootings in Tallahassee in the span of just three days, local officials say the violence in the Capital City has made residents feel "uneasy."
It was a busy weekend here in Tallahassee with thousands at FAMU's homecoming and the Experience Asia Festival. But six people were shot between Saturday and Sunday and Commissioner Curtis Richardson says the violence has to stop.
Tallahassee Police and the Leon County Sheriff's Office are actively investigating each one, hoping to get much-needed answers.
Richardson says the city will need to "double down" on its efforts to crack down on crime, but there also needs to be a push from inside each community to hold each other accountable and to stop crime before it happens.
"People have got to be willing to report crime when they see it, or if they hear something going on, or just to be involved, because it's going to take all of us working together to eventually address this issue," said Richardson.
The commissioner says he's been in talks with local law enforcement and says they're committed to curbing crime in the community.
Monday, WTXL reached out to Sheriff Walt McNeil and TPD chief Michael DeLeo for comment but neither of them were available.
