ATLANTA, Ga. (WTXL)--A dairy item being recalled could be in your fridge.
A recall of Lacteos Santa Martha cheese has been issued in several states including Georgia and Florida.
According to Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black, the company's cheese and cream products have the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
The Miami-based company is recalling select lots of the products with best by dates of July 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014.
Listeria is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever and nausea.
