TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Former Miami Beach mayor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Philip Levine is set to 'Rally in Tally' Monday with thousands of Floridians to demand action on gun reform.
Over 1,000 Floridians from across the state, including a number of high school students from Stoneman Douglas High School, are traveling to Tallahassee and will rally to demand action on gun reforms, including a permanent ban on assault rifles.
Levine will be joined by the Women’s March Florida, the Miami-Dade Democratic Party and Broward Democratic Party.
Buses from Gainesville, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Pensacola, Crestview, Marianna, Miami, Pompano Beach, West Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie, Melbourne, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, and The Villages were scheduled to leave early Monday morning to make their way to the Capital City.
Buses were scheduled to arrive at the FSU Civic Center at 9 a.m. and the march is slated to kick off at 10:30 a.m. followed by a rally.
At 2:30 p.m., the Florida Senate Rules Committee is set to hear SPB 7022, a gun reform package.
Roads will also be closed for the in downtown Tallahassee for the events at the Capitol.
The Tallahassee Police Department says that the closures will start at 10:30 a.m. and will last until 11:30 a.m.
They say traffic will be held temporarily at the following intersections:
- St. Augustine/Macomb
- Macomb/Madison
- Madison/Bronough
- Gaines/Duval
- Madison/Duval
- St. Augustine/Duval
They are telling drivers to expect traffic delays and are reminding them to watch out for pedestrians.
