TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Rallygoers packed the front lawn and steps to the old Florida Capitol Building in downtown Tallahassee on Wednesday evening.
The event titled "Stand with Charlottesville Against White Supremacy and Terrorism" was put together by the FSU Black Student Union, the Plant and the Students for Justice in Palestine.
It's in response to the deadly chain of events that unfolded this past Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, where one woman was killed and at least 35 others injured.
It all stemmed from a planned "Unite the Right" rally opposing the removal of a Confederate statue of General Robert E. Lee.
Locals stood with Charlottesville as they offered up their support and prayers and a way of dialogue among rising tensions.
Rallygoers held signs and yelled chants opposed to hate and racism.
Organizers say more rallies like the peaceful one held Wednesday are planned.
