VALDOSTA, Fla. -- You can't rain on the Parade of Champions. At noon, event planners told City of Valdosta officials that the event will go on as scheduled.

The January 30 parade is to support the Valdosta State University Blazers, who won the NCAA Division II Championship.  It starts at 4 p.m. in front of Mathis Auditorium (located at 2300 Ashley Street). Participants will travel west on Woodrow Wilson Drive, south down Patterson Street, and conclude at Drexel Park. Residents are invited to cheer the Blazers on anywhere along the parade route.

At the conclusion of the parade, Valdosta City Mayor John Gayle and Lowndes County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bill Slaughter, Jr. will issue a joint proclamation, followed by brief remarks by VSU President William J. McKinney and the team coaches.

Beginning at 3 p.m., Woodrow Wilson Drive will be closed from Ashley Street to Williams Street.  All other parts of Woodrow Wilson Drive will remain open until the Parade of Champions steps off at 4 p.m.
