TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - According to a new study, only 58 percent of Americans think increasing diversity makes America a better place.

The Pew Research study shows 9 percent of people polled think diversity makes the US a worst place and 31 percent says it makes no difference.

WTXL decided to go find out how local people think race relations are doing in America.

One Tallahassee man we spoke to says in the city he thinks things are going well.

"As far as the adults go, I see small change there as well," said Marshall Baldwin, Tallahassee resident. "I think that the last 5 to 10 years weren't so great as far as leadership at the top, and I think that we have a more inclusive leadership now and I think things are getting better."

While one resident has a positive outlook, another Tallahassee resident thinks the US can do a lot better.

"Well looking at how much time has passed we should be in a better place than we are now, so I think we haven't progressed enough," said Aliyah Balogun, Tallahassee resident. "There is still a lot of discrimination going on. I just think that people still have same mentality that they had 50 to 60 years ago."

Also according to the study, Florida was ranked 8th in the studies racial progress ranking.
