Rabies confirmed in Western part of Suwannee County

SUWANEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Health officials are once again issuing a rabies alert for another part of Suwannee County.

The Florida Department of Health in Suwannee County has issued a rabies alert for an area in the western section of Suwannee County. The recent rabies alert is for 60 days.

The area is described to encompass CR 136 to the North; 120th Street to the South; 153 Rd to the East; and 185th Rd to the West.

This is in response to a confirmed case of rabies in a skunk.

All residents and visitors in Suwannee County should be aware that rabies is present in the wild animal population and domestic animals are at risk if not vaccinated. 

Persons who have been bitten or scratched by wild or domestic animals should seek medical attention and report the injury to the Florida Department of Health in Suwannee County at 386-362-2708.
