QUINCY, Fla. (WTXL) - A 38-year-old man has been arrested, accused of shooting his elderly father with a BB gun when he refused to give him money for his birthday.
Torres Bryant, 38, was arrested for domestic battery on a person 65 years of age or older (first degree misdemeanor) and shooting into a home (second degree felony).
According to arrest documents, the Quincy Police Department was called out to a home in the 800 block of Circle Drive around 1:05 p.m. Wednesday about an individual with a gun.
When they spoke to the victim, he told them that his son, Bryant, had shot him with a BB gun several times.
The victim said that Bryant had gotten upset when the victim told him wouldn't give him any money for his birthday. The victim said he already gives Bryant $600 a month and that's all he can give him.
After the conversation, Bryant went outside and came back with a BB gun, shooting at his father multiple times.
Bryant then left the home on foot and was not present when police were on scene. Based on the information provided by the victim, police wrote a probable cause affidavit requesting a warrant for Bryant's arrest.
However, documents say Bryant returned to the home that evening, this time shooting at his father's house from the wood line behind the home.
When officers arrived, they immediately began searching the wood line for Bryant and found him a short time later. Officers also seized the BB gun and the ammo for evidence.
Documents say officers interviewed a witness that was inside the home when Bryant was shooting at it who said that this wasn't the first time an incident involving weapons had occurred at the home.
When questioned, Bryant told police that he was mad at his father because he wouldn't give him any money. He said that his father was "disrespectful" to him so he got angry and shot him with a BB gun.
He went on, saying the victim was recovering from medical issues and has dementia. Bryant told police that he made a mistake and should of handled his anger differently.
As a result of the investigation, Bryant was arrested and taken to the Gadsden County Jail. He remains in jail on a $25,000 bond.
