TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Quincy father has died after a boating accident on the Ochlockonee River in Leon County.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) confirmed that the accident happened Monday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.
They say it involved a 14-foot Aluminum Jon Boat that was being operated by Aaron Smith, of Quincy with two occupants, John Walker and Charles Lanham both of Tallahassee.
Officials say the three men were traveling southbound on the Ochlockonee River when their vessel struck a submerged object.
Smith was injured, and Walker and Lanham contacted 911 and immediately started first aid. They say Smith sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Leon County EMS.
The FWC’s Division of Law Enforcement is continuing to investigate this incident.
