SIESTA KEY, FL (WWSB) - Reptiles are having a hard time trying to make it in this cold weather.
A Siesta Key resident discovered something rare and found a yellow snake swimming underneath his dock.
Joe Volpe saw a 12 ft. python in the water and scooped up the snake using his pool net.
"At first I thought it was dead from the cold weather and then I saw some movement," said Volpe.
Volpe layed the python down in the sun to warm it up and decided to call Matthew's Wildlife Rescue.
Matthew's Wildlife Rescue will pick up the python and determine whether or not this is someone's pet.
The owner of Matthew's Wildlife Rescue Center, Justin Matthews said, "Chances are he might have been in the water, because the water was warmer than the air temperature."
Matthew's said he will look for a microchip in the python and coordinate other strategies with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
