LAKELAND, Fla. (WTXL) -- Publix will offer benefits to married same-sex couples starting in the New Year.
It's scheduled to go into effect on Thursday, January 1, just five days before the state's ban on gay marriage is lifted.
The coverage is for any couple who married in a state where gay marriage is legal. For example, if a gay couple married in Vermont, then came back to live in Florida, they're still eligible.
It also won't matter how long they've been married.
There's a special enrollment period for anyone who falls into this category, starting January 1 and through January 31, 2015.
