TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The public has been invited to review the state's conservation plans for roughly two dozen species of native wildlife.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posted draft action plans Monday on the agency's website. People can comment on the plans through March 13.
Wildlife officials say the plans are an important part of Florida's new conservation model. Plans for 60 native species eventually will be reviewed. Once all draft action plans are revised, wildlife officials will tie them together in one Imperiled Species Management Plan.
The 23 draft plans available for review now include 11 bird species, five fish species, four mammals, two reptiles and one amphibian. The species include the roseate spoonbill, the snowy egret and the Everglades mink, among others.
