TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Mooring buoys near coral reefs are among the recommendations in more than a dozen conservation plans that Florida wildlife officials want the public to review.
Draft action plans for 13 species were released Wednesday. It's the last batch of proposals to conserve 60 imperiled or vulnerable species in Florida. Once all the plans are revised, they'll be tied into one Imperiled Species Management Plan.
The plans released Wednesday include protections for pillar coral, the Southeastern American kestrel and seven reptiles that live in the Florida Keys.
To protect rare pillar coral in Florida waters, the state has proposed installing additional mooring buoys so that boats won't need to drop anchor near reefs.
