MIAMI (AP) - A Florida prison sergeant accused of raping an inmate has been charged with sexual battery by a corrections officer.

The Miami Herald reports prosecutors released an arrest report Monday saying the jailer at Homestead Correctional Institute claimed he never attacked the inmate and only entered a utility room with her to find her "contraband stash." The woman says he began fondling her inside her cell on May 18 before asking her to meet him in a closet where she was attacked.

The report says Miami-Dade police began investigating after she reported the incident to a superior of 50-year-old Trevor Hampton. The Florida Department of Corrections says it's moving to fire Hampton and that he's been removed from contact with inmates.

Hampton was arrested Friday. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
