Professional paintball team allows community to join

HAVANA, Fla. (WTXL) - It was a colorful day in Havana at an open paintball scrimmage and a professional team from our area is letting the average person tryout.

"As soon as I saw this I thought, maybe it's a little too much for me, but once I played my first game I said 'oh this is perfect,'" said Curtis Milner, member of Birds of Prey Paintball team.

Paintballing with a professional team isn't your average Sunday afternoon routine. But the Birds of Prey isn't your average team, in fact, they're ranked second in Division 5 in the state of Florida.

Sunday in Havana, paintballers like Milner were allowed to scrimmage with the Birds of Prey and participate in one of their biggest tournaments of the year, the Maximum Velocity Series.

"This is actually the biggest tournament in the southeast. It consist of about 25 to 30 teams in each division," said Mark Eyler, Tallahassee Paintball Sports Owner. "It's very important to get this in and learn those bunkers and a lot of different angle shots. It's a great sport for somebody to get into."

Even though professional teams like the Birds of Prey use this as a training facility, managers also want to engage the community in this experience.

"It's a big impact we get a lot of kids out here. We have a lot of middle school high school kids come out here," said Eyler. "It's real important because it's something for them to do on the weekends and it's really fun to do."
