TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Officials will perform a prescribed burn in Leon County's portion of the Apalachicola National Forest on Monday, May 13, 2013.
The 300-acre burn will take place west of Woodville Highway near Capital Circle. The Munson Hills off-road bicycle trail runs through this area, which bicyclists and joggers may want to avoid due to the possibility of smoke.
Smoke should spell caution for motorists as well. Drivers are asked to drive slowly with their lights on through smoky areas, especially when it's foggy.
This is one of many prescribed burns the Apalachicola National Forest is doing during the 2013 prescribed burning season.
Individuals who are sensitive to smoke may contact the Apalachicola Zone Fire Management Officer at (850) 926-3561, ext. 6523, to be placed on a notification list for future burns.
