TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Most of us won't begin cooking Thanksgiving dinner until Thursday, but for those supporting the Tallahassee Community Thanksgiving Celebration, the prep work has already begun.
Beginning Thursday, the American Legion Post at Lake Ella will be filled with dozens of volunteers serving the community a traditional Thanksgiving feast to the community.
All of Thursday's food was donated for the cause, including a total of 65 turkeys.
The turkeys have been smoked and were carved Wednesday afternoon, while the side dishes have been cooked and stored.
The goal is to serve about a thousand people in the community, both at the event and by donating the leftovers.
Holiday events like these make people feel welcome, loved, and appreciated.
Tina Reason, a coordinator for the 32nd Annual Community Thanksgiving Get Together said, "We have great sponsorships with Kaiser College as well as Lively Culinary art program, so their students help us. Also, additionally, the person who cooks our turkeys, that Davie Owens with Second Helping Catering."
Star Metro will provide transportation to and from the event at various locations.
The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post 13 at Lake Ella.
